Khakhra Chips
Crunchy chips to grab for a healthier snack!
Ingredients:
-
2 cups whole wheat flour
-
½ cup chana flour / gram four
-
1 teaspoon whole Jeera
-
1 teaspoon red chili powder OR black pepper
-
2 teaspoon salt
-
1 teaspoon sugar
-
1 teaspoon ajmo (Ajwain) -- Optional
-
½ teaspoon Kasuri Methi (dry fenugreek leaves) – Optional
-
4 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
-
1 cup warm water
-
¼ cup plain flour for dusting
How to make the dough:
Take the two flour in a mixing bowl. Add the Jeera, chili powder, salt, sugar and vegetable oil in the flour. Mix well and make the dough by adding the water a little at a time. Use enough water to make a stiff but pliable dough like roti dough. Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
Now divide the dough in 10 equal portions. Heat a griddle or a frying pan on medium heat. Take a portion of the dough, toss it in the plain flour and roll it out like a thin roti. Cook the roti on each side till you see little dark marks appear on each side. It should take less than a minute on each side. Remove from the pan and lay it on a clean towel to cool. Repeat the process for each dough ball.
Heat the oven at 260 degrees (very low heat).
Stack 2-3 rotis in a pile. Cut them in 1 inch squares or triangles with a pizza cutter or kitchen scissors.
Lay the pieces evenly on a baking tray. Do not overlap the pieces. Bake for 30-40 mins until the chips are crisp. Cool and store in a tin.
Enjoy as a snack or with morning tea!
